For most of my life, I’ve made decisions based on a belief system that for the most part – was limiting. Things, people, situations all program us with a certain set of beliefs. About who we are. What we can or should do. These beliefs limit us. They keep us inside a cozy, safe box where we never really take a leap towards living up to our fullest potential. We need to let go of limiting beliefs.
Through meditation, we begin to get more in touch with our thoughts. Not just the loud, obnoxious thoughts but also the quiet, whispering thoughts. The thoughts that actually run the show in this thing we call life. These thoughts are based on fears and doubts and they keep us from stepping out of our comfort zones.
When I started meditating, I started to uncover what my deepest feeling were. I started to let go of limiting beliefs. I was able to recognize when a thought was in alignment with my highest self and when a thought was coming from a deep rooted fear or doubt. For example, when I decided I wanted to quit teaching and open up an animal shelter, it took me over a year to feel
comfortable talking about this with people. For I was actually unsure of it myself. I was scared I may fail. I had doubts about how I would make a living. I was embarrassed what people may say about me stepping away from my career. All of these feelings were deep within me and I didn’t recognize them at first. They ruled my life, keeping me from taking steps in the direction of my dreams. Through that year I spent a lot of time meditating and soul searching. I now realize when I’m making a decision out of fear (or lack of decision). I now realize when a thought is harming my progress. I am able to make decisions based on my true self. I was able to live the life I was always meant to! I felt free. I felt empowered. I felt alive.

And, if I’m being honest, I Meditate The World never would have happened if I didn’t begin to get in touch with me deep rooted limiting beliefs. There are so many factors, fears and doubts that could’ve gotten in the way. But they didn’t. Because I became aware of them. Sometimes that’s all it takes. An awareness. Once you are aware you can begin to decide which thoughts serve you and which are harming you. And that awareness comes from being mindful. From quieting your mind. From practicing letting thoughts come and go. From choosing not to let those thoughts run your life for you!
